How it works

Telehealth involves a small electronic unit, roughly the size of a telephone, being connected to the telephone line in the your home. You will also receive a range of devices that connect wirelessly to the unit.

Depending on your condition, these devices can take readings such as:

• blood pressure

• oxygen levels

• blood glucose levels

• heart rhythm

• weight

• pulse

• temperature

The unit is also programmed to ask you questions about your general health and wellbeing.

Most patients will use their telehealth system once a day. Each time you use it, your readings are sent automatically to a monitoring centre where any abnormal readings are identified. When this happens, your GP or nurse is informed who will then make contact with you and take the necessary action.
